A fully funded position PhD In America, USA is available. The Geohazards and Smart Sensing Lab at Missouri S&T is actively looking for a PhD student to join our team with full funding support. The position is open to start as early as August 2024 and no later than January 2025. Research will concentrate on climate change-related and seismic hazards, along with the utilization of remote sensing and AI in Geological (Geotechnical) Engineering applications.   • Hold both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Remote Sensing, or related engineering disciplines. For outstanding candidates, a Master’s degree is not mandatory.
  • Possess programming skills in Python, Matlab, C, or other relevant languages.
  • Demonstrate fluency in both oral and written English.

Desirable (but not mandatory) Qualifications:

  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.
    A first-authored publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Experience with UAVS and associated sensors.
  • Skills in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Data Mining.

Assistant Professor Dr. Weibing Gong works in the Department of Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering (GGPE) at Missouri S&T. He received his PhD in Geosystems Engineering from UC Berkeley in 2023, his Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Tongji University in 2018, and his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Central South University in 2015. Dr. Gong is particularly dedicated to monitoring, researching, and addressing natural hazards, particularly those related to climate change and earthquakes.
